Brazil Freezes 155 mm SPH Acquisition From Israel

Brazil has frozen its deal with Israel for ATMOS 2000 155 mm SPHs as a protest to the war crimes committed by the latter in Gaza.
Following Brazilian President Inazio “Lula” da Silva’s criticism of Israel’s actions against Hamas in Gaza, there have been reports of the deal for ATMOS 2000 SPHs being suspended.
Brazilian military sources speaking to Defense News clarified the reports by stating that the president didn’t sign a cancellation, but the acquisition was indeed frozen.
They also added that the Brazilian MoD is trying to persuade the president to resume the deal, hoping two SPHs will be delivered for testing.
It remains unknown if Brazil will start looking for other competitors in its VBCOAP programme, like the French CAESAR, Czech Zuzana, or the Chinese SH-15. If the president insists on suspending the deal with Israel as the conflict in Gaza continues, this possibility isn’t very out of the window. While SH-15 hasn’t seen combat, CAESAR and Zuzana’s combat experiences in Ukraine might elevate them as alternatives if the table makes a 360-degree turn.
