China Shows LD-2000 SPAAG's Successor

The promotional video for Zhuhai Airshow 2024 included the Type CS/SS2A short-range air defence system as LD-2000's successor.

China's one of the long-standing heavy short-range air defence systems, LD-2000 armed with a 30 mm rotary cannon will be succeeded by Type CS/SS2A fitted with a more modern sensor suite.

LD-2000 is a development of Type 730 CIWS featuring a seven-barrel 30 mm rotary cannon, fire control radar, and searching radar.

Judging by the turret bearing a heavy similarity with the Type 1130 CIWS sporting an 11-barrel rotary cannon, Type CS/SS2A might be based on the newer CIWS.

While Type CS/SS2A has the same layout of systems, it is using new radars with likely better performance. The new search radar appears to be that of the new PLB625E hybrid air defence system combining a 25 mm rotary cannon and eight short-range missiles.

Another change appears to be in mobility with a swap to a trailer+6x6 truck instead of a heavy 8x8 truck. This might be intended to make the system open to carriage by a diverse range of platforms.

It is unknown if the new air defence system will have the option of using short-range air defence missiles like LD-2000, which could mount six TY-90 missiles on the sides.
