Echodyne announced a contract covering the delivery of EchoShield metamaterial radars for Trust Automation’s SUADS soft-kill C-UAS system for the USAF.
Echodyne announced that its EchoShield metamaterial electronically scanned array (MESA) radar will be used on Trust Automation’s SUADS family of C-UAS systems.
SUADS family of soft-kill systems, including RS-SUADS for rapid deployment, EX-SUADS for mobility, and FS-SUADS for fixed site use, will be procured by the USAF under a $490 million contract.
FS-SUADS mounted on a tripod uses two EchoShield radars while the palletised RS-SUADS with its own generator is fitted with four for full azimuthal coverage. In addition to Echoshield, SUADS is equipped with an EO/IR system for detailed identification.
EchoShield is currently Echodyne’s most potent radar in the MESA line, which also includes the highly compact EchoGuard. The radar operates in Ku-band to provide high angular and spatial resolution against small-sized UAVs. Echoshield can detect Nano UAVs at a range of 1.5 km, while this extends to 5-7 km for Class 1 UAVs. The power consumption per radar varies between 100 W and 250 W, depending on the operating conditions.
