Belgian firerams manufacturer FN unveiled its Tactical modernisation kit for the legacy FN MAG 7.62 mm GPMG, improving the quality of life for infantry use.
FN’s widespread FN MAG 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) has gotten an upgrade aimed at improving the ergonomics and adaptability for infantry use. FN stated that the kit is available for virtually any FN MAG derivative, including M240 (US) and L7A2 (UK).
The upgrade introduces piccatiny rails, improved feed cover, a new carrying handle, and an adjustable stock.
The 11-inch piccatiny rail on the top side and the sides of the barrel allow for the fitting of optics and other attachments.
Improved feed cover with FN’s AUTO-LOCK mechanism keeps the cover locked open during reloading or cleaning to reduce the workload.
On the other hand, the adjustable stock, similar to the one used on the Minimi Mk3 LMG, has length and cheek rest settings, which significantly contribute to the handling, especially on foot and in the prone position. The original FN MAG uses a fixed stock that is also considerably heavier.
