General Dynamics European Land Systems announced that it won from Sweden for the supply of M3 amphibious bridges.
General Dynamics European Land Systems-Bridge Systems has won an order for a fourth batch of M3 amphibious bridge and ferry systems from the Swedish Armed Forces.
Yesterday, the procurement agency Försvarets Materielverk (FMV) signed a contract with Madrid headquartered U.S. Company. With the new order, Sweden is bolstering its wet gap crossing capabilities, with its M3 fleet alone capable of traversing 400 meters of barriers.
Furthermore, the Swedish Armed Forces use the IRB (Improved Ribbon Bridge) pontoon system and coupling adapters to operate both types of bridges simultaneously. This also permits transnational missions with partners in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and Latvia, all using the same technology.
The amphibious bridge and ferry system may function as a floating bridge or ferry, transporting even the largest main battle tanks across wide wet gaps. Whether utilised as a bridge or a ferry, the M3 has a loading capacity of up to MLC 85 (T) / 132 (W). Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) can traverse the M3, including the Leopard 2, M1A2 Abrams, and Challenger 2.
Turkish Defence Company FNSS Savunma provides a similar wet crossing capacity with an indigenous OTTER Rapid Deployable Amphibious Wet Gap Crossing System.
