India Tests its First Indigenous Cruise Missile

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested the Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) with a 1,000-kilometer range. According to a Ministry of Defence press release, all subsystems performed as predicted and achieved the primary mission goals.

The launch took place using a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

The Aeronautical Development Establishment is developing the LRLACM project in Bengaluru with assistance from other DRDO institutes and the Indian military industry.

Other collaborators for LRLACM include Bharat Dynamics Limited in Hyderabad and Bharat Electronics Limited in Bengaluru, which are both commercial developers and manufacturers.

India's Defence Acquisition Council approved the purchase of many LRLACMs in July 2020.
