The Israeli MoD approved the procurement of five new corvettes and U.S.-made JLTV 4x4 vehicles in the hundreds range.
No information on cost was given, but the two packages were stated to cost multi-billions in Shekels.
Israeli Navy previously announced the plans for a new class of corvettes dubbed Reshef-class to replace the ageing Sa'ar 4.5 class. The corvettes appear to be based on the Sa'ar 72 design with C-Dome short-range air defence missiles, eight anti-ship missiles, one 76/62 mm naval gun, two 30 mm RCWS, two decoy launcher turrets, and space for containerised modules.
Compared to the latest German-built Sa'ar 6-class corvettes, the Reshef-class has less anti-air warfare firepower, with the former having 32 Barak 8 long-range air defence missiles in addition to C-Dome. The new class appears to be emphasising patrol missions and modularity.
Israel is a recent user of JLTV tactical wheeled vehicles, and an order was placed in 2023. Some of the vehicles were spotted in use by the Israeli forces in 2024 during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
JLTV is known as the successor of Humvee 4x4 vehicles in the U.S. service with various configurations, including general purpose, heavy guns carrier, MADIS Mk1 air defence system (USMC), and unmanned anti-ship missile vehicle under the ROUGE Fires programme.
