Israel Signs Major Contract to Boost Iron Dome Production TurDef

Under the expanded procurement plan, Rafael will manufacture and deliver a substantial new batch of Iron Dome interceptors for the Ministry of Defence and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). Officials say the deal is designed to replenish interceptor stocks and sustain high operational readiness after the system’s intensive use across multiple fronts in recent conflicts.

The contract is funded through the USD 8.7 billion U.S. aid package approved by Congress in April 2024, which earmarked USD 5.2 billion specifically for Israel’s air-defence architecture. This allocation covers Iron Dome, David’s Sling and the high-energy laser program now approaching operational deployment.

The Israeli Air Force currently operates four Iron Dome battalions within its Aerial Defence Array, including two units reestablished during the war to meet expanded needs. The Israeli Navy also fields a maritime variant aboard its Sa’ar-6-class corvettes, providing point-defence coverage for territorial waters and offshore assets.
