Italy has received its first German KF41 Lynx tracked armoured fighting vehicle for tests following the pick for Italy’s future family of armoured vehicles.
The Italian Army stated that the vehicle’s metrics, such as mobility, firepower, and protection, will be tested, and the testing crew will familiarise themselves with the vehicle.
Recently, Leonardo and Rheinmetall formed a joint venture to meet the Italian Army’s requirements for a new family of armoured fighting vehicles and an MBT.
Defense News reported that the €15 billion contract for armoured fighting vehicles involves 1050 vehicles in various configurations.
The Italian Army’s new MBT will be based on the KF-51 Panther, a new design from KNDS with a 130 mm main gun and onboard loitering munitions for NLOS engagements. 280 units will replace the Ariete series of MBTs for a contract valued at €8 billion.
Italy will participate in the production and development of the new combat vehicles, and a MoU has been signed allowing 60 per cent of the activities to be carried out in Italy.
