The State Department has given the green light for a Foreign Military Sale to Japan, which includes Rolling Airframe Missile Block 2B Tactical Missiles and associated equipment, with an estimated value of $360 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) provided the necessary certification to inform Congress about this potential sale.
Japan has made a request to purchase as many as 212 Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) Block 2B, RIM-116E. The total estimated cost amounts to $360 million.
The suggested sale will bolster Japan’s ability to address both current and emerging threats by offering greatly improved area defence capabilities across vital East Asian and Western Pacific air and sea lines of communication. U.S. considers that it is essential for U.S. interests that Japan cultivates and upholds a robust and prepared self-defence capability.
RTX Corporation, based in Tucson, AZ, will serve as the principal contractor.
DSCA approved in November 2023 Japan’s request to acquire 63 RAM Block 2B, RIM-116E, with a total cost of $74.6 million.
