Bangladeshi Army was spotted deploying multiple Boran 105 mm air-transportable light howitzers with Mi-171Sh utility helicopters and performing firing drills.
BDOSINT shared footage of the Boran 105 mm howitzer used by Bangladeshi personnel. MKE previously announced the completion of inspections for the export of Boran to an undisclosed Asian country in June 2024.
Bangladesh placed orders for 18 Boran 105 mm air-transportable howitzers from Turkiye in 2023, with deliveries completed in 2024, according to the SIPRI Arms Transfer Database. However, more orders are anticipated as the source of the footage underlined a requirement of 240 howitzers in total.
Boran has been developed as a replacement for ageing lightweight howitzers in the Turkish Army with air transportability in mind. The howitzer weighing 1745 kg can be carried externally by 10-ton-class utility helicopters such as UH-60 and Mi-8/17/171.
Boran, with an L30 barrel, can reach a range of 17 km with rocket-assisted projectiles (RAP) and features a fire control system with onboard GPS.
Turkiye has also exported ROKETSAN’s TRG230, and TRG300 guided artillery rockets to the Asian countries neighbouring India and Pakistan. TRG230, with a range of 70 km, and the larger TRG300, with 105 km or 120 km (Depending on the variant), are among the longest-ranged artillery pieces of Bangladesh at the moment.
