A LoA has been signed between the U.S. government and the Netherlands to provide JASSM-ER air-launched cruise missiles. Netherlands will use the stealthy AGM-158B JASSM-ER cruise missiles from its F-35 fighter jets for land attack missions. The Netherlands has become the fifth customer of the missile. The missile weighs about one ton and carries a 450 kg penetrating warhead against fortified structures.
export version can reach a range of 370 km. Its features, such as sharp profiles, embedded air intake, and isolated nozzle, achieve low observability in both the RF and IR spectrums. Due to its size, JASSM-ER can only be carried out externally by F-35.
The only cruise missiles that the F-35 can internally carry remain the Norwegian JSM and Turkish SOM-J.
JASSM is currently in use by the U.S., Poland, Finland, and Australia. The missile has been certified for F-16 and F-15 fighters and the USAF strategic bombers (B-1B, B-2, B-52H).
The U.S. is using a spin-off of JASSM, emphasising ASuW capability as AGM-158C LRASM with launch capability from aircraft and ships (Mk41 VLS).
