Otokar’s Acquisition of Automecanica SA Approved by Romania TurDef

Romania’s foreign direct investment authorities have approved the acquisition of Automecania SA by Otokar, to support the local production of Cobra II 4x4.

The approval from Romania for Otokar’s [BIST: OTKAR] acquisition of Automecanica SA’s stocks was announced on the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). The previously announced acquisition has a value of €85 million.

Automecnica SA plant will be an important asset for the local production of Cobra II 4x4 tactical armoured vehicles in Romania within the scope of the large-scale order for 1059 units in different configurations, including flatbed, anti-tank, mortar carrier, MEDEVAC, and APC.

The delivery of 270+ Turkish-produced Cobra IIs to the Romanian Army was completed towards the end of spring 2026, and the remaining units will be produced in Romania. Romania recently displayed the first locally produced Cobra II during the BSDA2026 defence exhibition.
