Pentagon Warns for Increasing C-UAS Costs

The Undersecretary of Defence for acquisition and sustainment calls attention to the rising cost of UAV interceptions, which have become prohibitively expensive. Speaking at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies think tank, Bill LaPlante, the Undersecretary of defence for acquisition and sustainment, emphasised that intercepting UAS becomes more expensive as they flood battlefields. He investigated the latest UAS launched by Houthi terrorists in the Red Sea, where multimillion-dollar missiles were utilised to intercept them. According to his claims, the Pentagon intends to reduce the cost to around tens of thousands of dollars per round, which currently surpasses $100,000. “I’m really excited about some possibilities of even some counter-UAS capabilities per round that could be $10,000,” LaPlante said.
