Rheinmetall Constructs a New Hybrid Facility in Hungary

Rheinmetall is establishing a new facility in Szeged, Hungary, to increase its presence in the EU and NATO partner countries. Rheinmetall's new plant is the company's first significant hybrid location, bringing civil and defence technology activities together under one roof. By August 2025, the site should be operating. The Rheinmetall Szeged location will largely manufacture items for the automotive business unit, including electrical components such as nanostructure capacitors and hydrogen-powered mobility and energy generation equipment. It will become part of Rheinmetall's Power Systems division. Furthermore, commodities from Rheinmetall's Electronic Solutions division's military sector will occupy around 10% of the production space." The groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 26, 2024. The ceremony was attended by the Hungarian Minister of Defence, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, the Mayor of Szeged, Dr László Botka, Professor Gábor Szabó, Managing Director of the research institute ELI-ALPS, Dr Judit Fendler, Chancellor of the University of Szeged, and Milhálffy Béla, Member of the Hungarian Parliament. In the initial industrialisation step, a facility with a floor area of 15,000 square metres will be built on an 85,000 square metre site. There will be up to 300 highly qualified employment openings. The overall investment volume is €63 million.
