SYS Group Unveils Layered C-UAS System and VENOM LR Test

AEI Systems Unveils Layered C-UAS System and VENOM LR Test TurDef

SYS Group, through AEI Systems, has unveiled the three-layered close-in C-UAS system combining the recently tested RCWS solutions based on the TRAKON family.

SYS Group’s C-UAS system combines three different types of heavy weaponry to cover different ranges with different traits, using the TRAKON family of RCWS. Alongside the unveiling, AEI Systems shared a test video for the VENOM LR taking down a small UAV using 30x113 mm ammunition (Unclear if HEDP or Proximity ammunition).

The new C-UAS concept from SYS Group combines TRAKON LITE 134 RCWS with a 7.62 mm Gatling gun, TRAKON LITE 99 RCWS with CANiK M3 12.7 mm machine gun, and finally TRAKON 30 RCWS with VENOM LR 30x113 mm revolver cannon. All of the three RCWS in the three-layered C-UAS system are frontally equipped with Echodyne’s EchoGuard metamaterial electronically scanned array (MESA) radar that is as small as a tablet and can detect small to large UAVs at varying ranges. Additionally, the vehicle with TRAKON LITE 134 RCWS is fitted with the longer-range EchoShield MESA radar in a mast-mounted quadruple configuration to provide extensive detection.

TRAKON LITE 134, which can be fitted with the EchoGuard metamaterial-based radar, takes advantage of extreme fire rate (3000 RPM) to cover a very short ranges. The extreme volume of fire has a better chance of hitting small-sized targets that have unpredictable flight paths, like multi-rotor UAVs.

TRAKON LITE 99 with the rapid-firing M3 machine gun (1200 RPM) from CANiK can be considered a middle ground in terms of range and lethality due to its calibre. The 12.7 mm ammunition retains its kinetic energy for a longer distance compared to 7.62 mm ammunition, which is important against larger UAVs.

TRAKON 30, using the VENOM LR revolver cannon with adjustable fire rate as well as independent optics, is a longest ranged and hardest hitting option in the system. In addition to the performance, VENOM LR, capable of up to 1200 RPM fire rate, can use proximity fuse ammunition for improved hit chances.

Previously, AEI Systems unveiled a fully mobile C-UAS solution with TRAKON 30 RCWS and EchoShield radar for the protection of armoured vehicle columns, mounted on armoured fighting vehicles.
