SYS Pitches Mobile C-UAS System Based on TRAKON 30 RCWS TurDef

AEI Systems, a SYS subsidiary, announced a new C-UAS system for armoured vehicles using TRAKON 30 RCWS with proximity rounds and EchoGuard MESA radars.

The new C-UAS system intended for fully mobile use combines Unirobotics TRAKON 30 RCWS fitted with VENOM LR 30x113 mm revolver cannon and EchoGuard micro radar, and a quad set of larger EchoShield radars on a seperate mast. The C-UAS configuration of TRAKON 30 was first displayed during the SAHA EXPO 2024 defence exhibition at CANiK’s stand.

The effector VENOM LR’s fire rate can be adjusted within a wide envelope covering between 220 RPM and 1200 RPM, which allows for efficient use of ammunition depending on the situation, as faster targets require higher fire rates for better hit chances per burst.

Instead of solely using proximity fuse ammunition, the system uses a mixed load of proximity fuse and impact fuse high-explosive ammunition. This allows the use of the system against soft targets like UAVs and more hardened ones like vehicles at the same time, without having to change ammunition type.

The sensor loadout consists of a two-axis EO/IR system of TRAKON 30 RCWS for optical detection, while the radar part is two-layered, provided by Echodyne. The first layer, acting more like a fire control radar, uses the EchoGuard MESA (Metamaterials Electronically Scanned Array) radar, which is as small as a tablet, mounted fixedly to the RCWS. The second layer is the EchoShield Ku-band MESA radar, which is larger and thus a better fit for search at longer ranges up to 30 km.
