The UK joined the Common Armoured Vehicle System initiative through a technical agreement with Norway but the country has not made any procurement decisions.

The UK joined the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program at DSEI UK 2025 through Minister of State for Defence Lord Vernon Coaker who announced the decision during his 9 September keynote speech.

The Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program started in 2019 when Finland and Latvia initiated the multinational project with Patria as its leading organization to create a new 6x6 armored vehicle system. The program started with Finland and Latvia before Patria joined forces with Denmark and Germany and Sweden and now includes Norway and the United Kingdom have joined the initiative.

The technical agreement enables the UK to participate in CAVS activities but does not require the country to purchase any equipment. The government needs to sign additional agreements about research and development and frameworks and life cycle management to proceed with procurement like other member states have done.

The CAVS program works to create standardized armored vehicles which improve military performance through collaborative development and acquisition expenses.

Patria and Babcock established an MoU during the first half of 2025 to present the Patria 6x6 to British Army forces while making necessary modifications for UK military needs. The vehicle stands as a potential British military procurement option because Patria adapted the platform to UK requirements under the CAVS framework.
