Turkish MoD R&D Works on 122 mm Rockets of Longer Reach TurDef

Turkish MoD unveiled the extended range 122 mm artillery rocket project, aiming for a range of 60 km during the IDEF25 defence exhibition held last week.

The 122 mm artillery rocket compatible with existing platforms like T-122 Sakarya or BM-21 Grad can reach a range of 60 km, according to the Turkish MoD’s R&D centre. For reference, the extended-range 122 mm rockets from Serbia and China have instrumented ranges around 50 km. The range of in-use 122 mm artillery rockets varies between 20 km and 40 km.

The proportions having nothing unusual suggest a change in the propellant rather than an extended rocket motor section.

It would be necessary to have a sort of guidance or correction kit at longer ranges due to the deviation increasing with distance.

Turkiye is a major user of the 122 mm artillery rockets, with most of the rockets from the TR-122 family, which consists of unguided and guided variants.
