Turkish Urban Defence will provide electro-chemically processed ceramic alloy barrels to modernise the 40 mm autocannons of the Turkish Navy. TurDef has learned that the barrels will be used on 40 mm L70 autocannons of the Turkish Navy. Turkish Navy uses the 40 mm L70 autocannons on its Kılıç-class fast attack craft armed with the Italian DARDO CIWS.
Urban Defence's ceramic alloy barrels provide higher resistance to thermal and corrosion effects, leading to improved barrel life. The firm can produce barrels with said technology for calibres ranging from 5.56 mm to 57 mm.
Additionally, the firm is known for having developed the ŞAHİ-209 series of railguns (Named after the large calibre cannons used during the siege of Istanbul by Mehmed II). The prototype, Block 1, is a 13 mm railgun with a 1 MJ pulsed power supply and a range of 10 km (Mach 3 muzzle velocity). The larger Block 2 with a 10 MJ supply fires much larger 35 mm rounds up to a range of 50 km (Mach 6 muzzle velocity) and has an integrated ammunition feed.
