As a way of commemorating Lieutenant General Kodandera M. Cariappa's transfer from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, to Lieutenant General Kodandera M. Cariappa as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on January 15, 1949, India celebrates Army Day on that day every year. Celebrations of the day take place in the form of parades and other military exhibits in New Delhi, the capital of the nation, as well as in all of the commands.
