The United Arab Emirates celebrates its National Day, or Al-Eid Al Watani, on 2 December each year. The holiday marks the nation’s founding in 1971, when the Trucial States united to form a single federation following the end of British protectorate treaties. On this day, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan became the first President of the UAE, setting the foundation for state. The national flag — featuring the colours red, green, white, and black — was also officially hoisted for the first time, symbolising unity and independence.
