Anadolu-2025: Highlights from Turkish Special Forces TurDef

Turkish Special Forces personnel have used various types of unmanned systems, including UGVs, during the Anadolu-2025 international special forces exercise.

Turkish Special Forces have used their newest equipment during the Anadolu-2025 international exercise, with participation from 19 countries and spectatorship from three countries.

The Turkish Armed Forces has shared a three-minute video on social media, showing a visit from the Chief of the Turkish General Staff, Metin Gürak and highlights from the exercise.

FNSS PARS IV 6x6 MRAP

FNSS PARS IV 6x6 MRAP, which was delivered to the Turkish Special Forces in 2022, was used in the exercise. PARS IV 6x6 MRAP is a variant of the PARS IV 6x6 line customised for the needs of Turkish Special Forces with increased protection against mines and RPGs (Using nets with rigid nodes).

The firepower consists of two SANCAK RCWS, also developed by FNSS. On PARS IV 6x6 MRAP, one is fitted with a 12.7 mm machine gun while the other is fitted with a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. Additionally, the vehicles feature onboard jammers.

UAV with Fibre-Optic Cable

The exercise marks the first sighting of a UAV with a fibre-optic cable for communication and control in the Turkish Armed Forces inventory. These UAVs have become popular in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, with the increased use of communication jammers.

The fibre-optic cables are unaffected by soft-kill countermeasures like jamming and also have the benefit of communication with nearly no clutter. This makes UAVs using fibre-optic cables only possible to neutralise through kinetic means or the emerging HPeM weapons that damage electronics.

FPV UAVs

Multiple FPV UAVs with different types of warheads are seen in the video. Multiple FPVs are seen with wide-arc fragmentation warheads, while mortar rounds and an unidentified shaped charge are also present on another two.

The video shared by the Turkish Armed Forces also shows one of the FPVs being used to strike a representative infantry target on a rooftop.

UGV with 7.62 mm Gatling Gun

A new UGV fitted with a 7.62 mm gatling gun was present in inspections. The RCWS is also an unknown type. The small profile and large ammunition box suggest it might be intended for fire support during short-duration operations.

Robot Dog as a Buddy for Breaching

A robot dog is seen accompanying the special forces personnel and entering a house, acting as a place for breach training. The robot dog appears to be fitted with a machine gun for offensive uses as well.
