ASSAN Group's 60 mm commando mortar is close to entering service for use by infantry units in the Turkish Armed Forces.
Anadolu Agency News has reported that SSB has assigned ASSAN Group to provide the needed 60 mm mortars, also dubbed "commando mortars". More than 20 tests have been completed with the mortar, and a final test will be performed before its introduction into the service.
The mortar usable by a single personnel can hit targets as far as 2000 m, depending on ammunition type. The company has also developed quick-aim sights and mounting legs for the mortar. The lightweight and small design of 60 mm mortars allows quick response or surprise attacks by infantry.
ASSAN Group is known in the defence industry for its ammunition products alongside various weaponry. Thus, the company will also be able to sustain the upcoming mortars logistically. TÜBİTAK SAGE's Former Director, Gürcan Okumuş, has recently started working as the General Manager of ASSAN Group.
