Brazil Selects the Israeli ATMOS-2000 Self-Propelled Gun

Brazil has announced that it has selected the Israeli ATMOS-2000 155 mm self-propelled gun manufactured by Israel for the 'VBCOAP 155 SR' program. The Brazilian SA Defensa announced the decision on April 29 that "The VBC OAP 155 mm SR “Atmos 155 mm 52 Calibers, mounted on a Tatra T-815 6×6” chassis, from the company “Elbit Systems Land Ltd”. Atmos 6×6 met all the absolute requirements set by EB."

The program involves the supply of 36 guns, and the ATMOS-2000 was chosen after rigorous evaluation against the Chinese SH-15, the French CAESAR, and the Czech Zuzana-2. The ATMOS-2000, mounted on a 6 x 6 vehicle, features a magazine of 27 rounds and achieves a maximum range of 41 kilometres with extended range rounds. Its rate of fire, ranging from 4-9 rounds per minute, ensures rapid response in combat situations.

The Israeli company will be called upon to sign the initial contract and deliver, within 12 months, the two vehicles that make up the Sample Lot. These vehicles will undergo technical and operational evaluations in Brazil. After passing the tests, COLOG will sign the main contract to supply another 34 systems, which will be delivered in annual batches until 2034.
