Netherlands-based Destinus and Germany’s Rheinmetall have launched a new JV, named Destinus Strike Systems, to develop and produce various missiles jointly.

Destinus, which has recently entered the cruise missile sector, is forming a joint venture (JV) with Germany’s Rheinmetall to expand its portfolio in the defence sector. The products under the JV are planned to include cruise missiles and new-generation artillery rockets. Rheinmetall will have a share of 51% in stakes while Destinus will have the remaining 49%.

The Netherlands-based firm, founded by Mikhail Kokorich, a Russian businessman who has settled in Europe due to his opposition against the current Russian administration, started with a project to develop a hypersonic UAV for small cargo delivery intended to serve civilian sectors.

Following the breakout of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Destinus steered towards defence, utilising its experience from the high-speed UAV projects for cruise missiles and high-speed kamikaze UAVs. Ruta cruise missile was provided to Ukraine for evaluation as a new option for long-range attacks around two years ago, as reported by UNITED24.

Alongside Ruta, Destinus is working on the smaller but longer ranged Kryla cruise missile and Hornet interceptor UAV.
