A C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft being refurbished by the Turkish Air Force has been seen for the first time at Marshall Aerospace facilities.
One of the Ex-RAF C-130J transport aircraft, which is to expand the Turkish Air Force’s logistics capabilities, has made its first public appearance during a visit by the Turkish Air Force delegation to the facilities of the UK-based Marshall Aerospace.
Marshall Aerospace is responsible for the refurbishment of the 12 C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft to be delivered to the Turkish Air Force to ensure the aircraft will be in condition for active service after their retirement from the RAF service.
The delegation from the Turkish Air Force inspected the centre wing box replacement process, which takes considerable time and effort as a critical structural component. In addition to this, other structure replacements, paint strip, surveys, and depth maintenance are to be performed on the C-130Js over the course of the next few years to ensure fitness for operation.
History of Marshall Group in Aerospace Industry
Marshall Aerospace began its journey in the early 1900s as an automotive firm in the UK, with a rather surprising route opening to the aviation sector when the mechanics performed repairs on a Beta II airship that made an emergency landing in 1912.
Following the First World War, Marshall officially entered aviation by opening a training facility. In the Second World War, the firm expanded towards aircraft maintenance, conducted alongside training services.
Over the remainder of the 20th century, Marshall added aircraft design support and military land platform production to its portfolio of capabilities. A notable work of Marshall in this era is the fuselage extension for C-130 Hercules, with which 30 units had their fuselages extended by 4.5 m for a volumetric expansion.
As of today, Marshall Group's aerospace sector-related capabilities include MRO activities, design, and production for various aircraft components under Marshall Aerospace.
