French Navy Orders Additional EXOCET Missiles

The French Defence Ministry announced on May 24 an additional order of EXOCET MM40 Block 3C anti-ship missiles for the Navy. The missiles, produced by MBDA, join the rest of the MM40 Block 3c on order for Franch Marine National deliveries of which began last January. The MM40 is in service with all French Navy frigates (8 Fremm, 2 Horizon, 5 La Fayette) and has been selected to equip future FDI frigates. In the newer Block 3 version, the maximum range is estimated at 180 km; in the more advanced Block 3c version, it is said to exceed 200 km. Greece has also ordered the MM40 Block 3c for the 3 FDI HN frigates. The B3C version incorporates a Thales digital radio altimeter and a digital radio frequency seeker, which enhances its capabilities against modern electronic countermeasures and improves target recognition and engagement accuracy.
