HAVELSAN and Karel Europe Sign Defence Technology MoU TurDef

HAVELSAN and Karel signed a strategic partnership agreement at IDEF 2025 to strengthen Romania's defence sector by working together on high-tech solutions.

During the IDEF 2025 International military Industry Fair in Istanbul, HAVELSAN and Karel Europe, a Romanian firm that is a subsidiary of Turkish electronics and military company Karel, inked a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The deal is mostly about working together to come up with better, more integrated solutions for Romania's military sector.

The MoU says that the two sides would work together on commercial development and operational operations in the fields of military and information technology. The agreement shows that both firms want to bring high-tech, software-driven products to European markets.

Şevket Ünal, HAVELSAN's Vice President of International Business Development and Marketing, talked on how important the Romanian market is: "Last year was the first time we sent e-maritime solutions to Romania, which is a European Union country." We are getting more involved in the area, and this new deal with Karel Europe might lead to both military and civilian developments.

Yavuz Bayız, President of Karel's military Technologies, also talked about how important the partnership is for strategy: "This MoU with HAVELSAN is a big step towards expanding the European footprint of our defence industry through high-tech transformation." We want to create integrated, high-value systems that meet Romania's defence demands by combining Karel's knowledge in military communications with HAVELSAN's software solutions.
Both parties were hopeful that working together would lead to further synergies and project prospects in Romania and other places.
