HAVELSAN Tests Swarm Teaming with POYRAZ Quadcopter UAVs TurDef

HAVELSAN teamed up a swarm of POYRAZ UAVs for short-range scouting with the BULUT VTOL UAV and BARKAN armed UGV in its recent swarm teaming test.

HAVELSAN announced a test involving another aspect of unmanned platform swarms in its test with POYRAZ UAVs, which is the use of multiple types of platforms.

BULUT VTOL UAV and BARKAN armed UGV were present in the swarm test. This hints that BULUT was assigned as the main observation platform, as it carries more capable sensors, while BARKAN would be the ground-based leg. It is known that HAVELSAN is working on a multi-domain unmanned teaming system, titled “Digital Troop”, where different types of UAVs, UGVs, and USVs work in conjunction.

POYRAZ is a lightweight quadcopter UAV mainly developed for scouting missions at short range. The UAV was previously used in alongside BAHA VTOL UAV as a part of disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of 2023's Kahramanmaraş Earthquake.

While the swarm of POYRAZ UAVs is not a combatant one, they can perform detailed surveillance of wide areas in a shorter time. This can be considered beneficial mainly for perimeter security applications. Another thing to note is that the test with POYRAZ swarm should be considered a demonstration and validation of swarming capability, which will serve as the ‘manual’ for the swarm teaming of more capable UAVs in the previously mentioned Digital Troop structure.

Another important swarming test from Turkiye was recently performed by STM, in which 20 KARGU quadcopter kamikaze UAVs struck their targets in coordination.
