Kalashnikov Tests Legionnaire E33K VTOL UAV

Russia's defence group Kalashnikov has tested the E33K fixed-wing VTOL UAV under strong winds. GC subsidiary's Legionnaire E33K is another one of Russia's moves to incorporate UAVs into its military after the observations from its war with Ukraine. E33K is powered by four takeoff electric propellers and one for horizontal flight. This configuration is also observed on the all-electric HAVELSAN BAHA.

Said configuration combines the flight performance of a fixed-wing with the runway or catapult independence of rotary-wing UAVs. Army Recognition reported that the UAV nearing 30 kilogram-MTOW could carry payloads between three to ten kilograms and reach a range of 200 km to 50 km, respectively. The UAV can be viewed as a successor to the catapult-launched Orlan-10 in terms of role. Orlan-10 has been a pivotal asset for the Russian artillery by providing coordinates or terminal guidance to guided rounds like the 152 mm Kransopol-M to engage vehicles. In addition to Kalashnikov's GC, ZALA Aero has been a prominent figure in Russia's drone-cladding campaign with its Lancet family of loitering munitions actively used in the war.
