MKE Tests 7.62 PM Pellet Ammunition for Personal C-UAS TurDef

MKE shared a test video of its 7.62 mm PM (Parçacıklı Mühimmat) pellet ammunition for small arms to provide self-protection for infantry against small UAVs.

MKE tested its 7.62 mm line of pellet ammunition available to 7.62x51 mm NATO and 7.62x39 mm firearms on different scenarios involving FPV attacks, which replicate those encountered in Ukraine.

The tested firearms include MPT-76, AKM-pattern assault rifles, and MKE’s PMT-76 GPMG. Additionally, PMT-76 was used from MKE’s MAP Dual weapon mount, allowing two PMT-76s to be used at the same time, as well as auxiliary optics.

Pellet-type C-UAS ammunition, as an evolution of the core mechanics of “Rat Shot” pest control ammunition generally offered farmers on smaller calibres, incorporates sub-projectiles to have a intentional spread similar to shotguns. However, to work cleanly with high-pressure firearms, the ammunition in recent iterations has a clamshell made from light alloys to store the sub-projectiles instead of polymer shells, which can cause contamination in the barrel.

Russia and the US are the other countries to have notably invest on this shotgun-like ammunition, with Russia adopting it for AK-pattern rifles and the USMC going for a wide range of calibres from 5.56 mm to 40 mm HV.
