More IRIS-T SLS SAMs and 155 mm Shells Go to Ukraine

The Ukrainian MoD has announced a new aid package from Germany, which includes one IRIS-T SLS air defence system and 155 mm shells. The most important part of the package can be considered as 14000 pieces of 155 mm howitzer shells. Another significant part of the package is ten USVs of undisclosed type.

This could be a variety of USVs, but mil.in.ua previously reported that Germany had transferred five small Sonobot 5 USVs for surveillance on the seabed. Given that Germany hasn't developed a USV of considerable size like Ukraine, Turkiye, France, or the U.S., additional Sonobot 5 USVs are the most likely option.

The aid for infantry is diverse, including 55000 aid kits, a limited number of assault and sniper rifles from German firearm manufacturer Haenel, and EOD equipment. Germany's most important aids to Ukraine throughout the war include IRIS-T SL air defence systems and Gepard 35 mm SPAAGs for defence against Russian cruise missile/UAV attacks.

While a series of aids on the combatant vehicles' side were made, some platforms, like BATT UMG 4x4 vehicles and PzH 2000 155 mm SPGs, have turned out to have maintenance deficiencies or quality issues.
