Netherlands Eyes NASAMS and NOMADS AD Systems

Norwegian Kongsberg has announced that the Netherlands plans to acquire NASAMS medium-range and the new NOMADS short-range AD systems.
The planned deal is expected to be valued at $1.02 billion (NOK 11 billion). NASAMS and NOMADS will be acquired as part of the Dutch MoD's CITADEL programme. The European country has been a long-standing user of NASAMS air defence systems.
The deliveries of NASAMS and NOMADS systems to the Dutch Armed Forces are expected to begin in 2028 after the contract is signed this year.

The current version of NASAMS is a medium-range air defence system capable of firing six AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9 Sidewinder, or the new AMRAAM-ER missile with a larger rocket motor than the baseline AMRAAM. NASAMS mostly comes in towed configuration, but vehicle-mounted ones also exist depending on customer needs.
Based on the M113 armoured vehicle, NOMADS has been developed as a more mobile and independent alternative with four AIM-9X missiles with onboard radar. The radar has a range of 50+ km. In addition to AIM-9X, NOMADS incorporates a 12.7 mm RCWS and C-UAS jammer for self-defence at close range.
