Oshkosh has revealed ROGUE-Fires missile carrier UGV, based on its JLTV 4x4 tactical vehicle, armed with six GMLRS artillery rockets from HIMARS and M270 MLRS.
ROGUE-Fires was initially developed to provide the USMC with a rapidly deployable coastal defence capability with two Kongsberg RGM-184 NSM cruise missiles. However, the mobility of the JLTV chassis that the fire support-oriented UGV uses has led to an idea for a light MLRS that can traverse rough terrains better and get transported more easily than even the M142 HIMARS.
The idea of integrating a single GMLRS pod with six rockets was presented in the early stages. Another alternative, a single BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missile, was tested by the USMC as well.
The GMLRS canister can accept standard GMLRS rockets with a range of 70+ km or the extended-range GMLRS-ER rockets with a range of 150+ km. Additionally, GMLRS-ER might be adapted for anti-ship use like the accompanying new-generation PrSM ballistic missile with a provision for seekers, adding an alternative to the upcoming coastal defence capabilities being prepared for the USMC.
