Russia Showcases New Military Pickup Truck

A military pickup named AG-34 was spotted during Russia’s 2024 Victory Day Parade, celebrating the victory over Germany in WWII. As reported by Army Recognition, the AG-34, initially unveiled at the Army-2023 exhibition, could potentially play a role in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. This is not mere speculation, as Russia has already begun deploying similar pickup trucks and ‘buggy’ light vehicles in the field. Some of the striking aspects of the design are thin skin and large wheels for better off-road performance. The AG-34, taking the stage in the parade, was fitted with a PK-type 7.62 mm machine gun, but upon its deployment, other weapon systems, such as heavier guns or even kamikaze UAVs, might be placed on the bed. Depending on load configuration, the truck has a payload capacity of 1.5 to 3 tons. AG-34 is powered by a 240 hp diesel engine with 780 Nm of torque, which provides a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The fuel supply consists of a 200 L tank, which allows for a range of 1200 km. Pickup trucks, renowned for their cost-effectiveness and remarkable carrying capacity relative to their size, have become a staple in conflicts worldwide. Their versatility is evident in their use for logistics, transport, and even weapons carriage, with some trucks being equipped with heavy weaponry like 23 mm anti-aircraft guns.
