ROKETSAN has published the technical specifications of TAYFUN SRBM, Turkiye's first hypersonic-cruising missile.
This infographic covers the first variant of TAYFUN, which was fired from a BORA SRBM canister and reached a range of more than 500 km. In addition to fitting into the BORA canister, which measures 7.1 m in length, TAYFUN is also more compact at 6.5 m and weighs 2300 kg versus BORA's 2500 kg.
An important part of the infographic is the official confirmation that TAYFUN is cruising at hypersonic speeds, which allows it to penetrate most enemy air defence systems.
Other new features against enemy defences include mid-flight manoeuvres, as stated by ROKETSAN CEO Murat İkinci during an interview with TRT news channel, and increased resistance to GNSS jamming.
The range has been given as ">280 km", likely because of the non-imposing but politically problematic MTCR regime, which limits payload to 500 kg and range to 300 km.
Murat İkinci also stated that several variants of the missile, including an extended range one and a shipborne one, in the aforementioned interview.
The extended-range variant's development has been anticipated with the alternative launcher vehicle BOZAT's 9+ meters-long canisters, which are likely to house the said variant. The measurements have been based on two separate tests with BOZAT, one of which had a BORA canister and the other a longer one.
For the shipborne variant, baseline TAYFUN's length can fit into the strike-length MİDLAS cells, but modifications like folding wings are likely necessary for lateral fitting.
