TEKNOFEST 2024: ASELSAN Unveils ZMA-X Combat UGV

ASELSAN unveiled the unmanned configuration of a modernised ACV-15 (ZMA-15) IFV, named ZMA-X, during TEKNOFEST 2024 in Adana.

ZMA-X features the NEFER turret with a 25 mm chain gun and add-on armour plates for extra protection, much like the ACV-15 modernisation package.

NEFER, being an unmanned turret, can be regarded as making the conversion into a combat UGV easier due to remote control.

The conversion seems to include LIDARs, much like FNSS' Shadow Rider conversion kit applied on M113 AFV for close-range situational awareness.

ZMA-X marks the third heavy-class UGV after Shadow Rider and Otokar's Alpar. Alpar, unlike the other two, has been developed from scratch and unveiled with MIZRAK RCWS, which includes a 25 mm chain gun and two ATGMs.

Operational concepts for heavy UGVs include support to manned fighting vehicles, accompanying infantry as fire support, reconnaissance, and logistics. These platforms are expected to follow after small and medium UGVs as autonomy, communication, and sensor technologies mature.
