UK Procures Boxer 8x8 SPG with RCH155 from Germany TurDef

The UK MoD announced that 72 Boxer 8x8 SPGs fitted with Rheinmetall’s [XETR-RHM] RCH155 155 mm L52 remote-controlled artillery module will be acquired from Germany.

The UK’s SPG fleet modernisation is taking shape with KNDS Boxer 8x8 SPGs, fitted with Rheinmetall’s new RCH155 artillery module using a 155 mm L52 gun from Germany.

Boxer 8x8 SPGs to be acquired are estimated to cost about £1 billion ($1.34 billion) alongside the industrial investments in the UK to support the local industry, which has become a prominent point in the UK’s recent acquisitions.

RCH155 is a new approach to SPGs as a standalone module that can be integrated on various platforms, including 8x8 or 10x10 armoured vehicles, and tracked ones like Tracked Boxer, MARS MLRS chassis, or ASCOD NEMESIS.

The module is fitted with a 155 mm L52 gun, an autoloader, and fire control systems and is operated remotely from the cabin. 30 rounds are stored in total, which can be either conventional types or guided ones such as VULCANO 155 or Excalibur.

One important capability of RCH155 is the inclusion of fire-on-move capability, which greatly contributes to survivability, especially against counter-battery fire possessed by more capable adversaries.
