US Army Plans to Begin PrSM Increment 4 Tests in 2028 TurDef

The US Army published a notice stating that the submissions for the PrSM Increment 4 missile with doubled range for MLRS platforms are set to be tested in 2028.

Portfolio Acquisition Executive Fires (PAE Fires) will host an overview of the rapid prototyping works for the extended range PrSM Increment 4 missiles. The statement on SAM.gov states that the competitive testing will begin in the fourth quarter of 2028.

PrSM Increment 4 is an upgrade in works to increase the range of PrSM missiles from 500+ km to 1000+ km using alternative propulsion methods. It is known that Lockheed Martin is working on a ramjet-powered variant for the PrSM Increment 4, which might have advantages other than range, such as significant manoeuvres and a less predictable flight path thanks to the sustained and adjustable thrust.

Other variants of PrSM in works include Increment 2, adding anti-ship capabilities with a multi-mode seeker, and Increment 3 with a modular payload bay, set to use General Atomics’ LRMP glide munition, mainly intended for 155 mm artillery.

PrSM has been introduced as the successor of the MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missile (TBM) with a longer range and doubled carriage for both M142 HIMARS (Two missiles) and M270 MLRS (Four missiles). The missile with a range of 500+ km carries a smaller warhead with a more optimised fragmentation effect and multi-mode fuse.
