Brazil’s Embraer announced a partnership with US-based Valkyrie Aero to incorporate the Gunslinger system into its A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft.
Embraer is planning to capitalise on turboprop-powered light attack aircraft’s potential for C-UAS missions by integrating Valkyrie Aero’s Gunslinger system to the A-29 Super Tucano.
According to the statement by Embraer, the Gunslinger system provides AI-supported detection, tracking, and engagement assistance capabilities to the aircraft.
A-29 and similar light attack aircraft have gained attention for airborne C-UAS due to their easy operation, ability to catch up to propeller-driven long-range kamikaze UAVs like Shaheed-136/Geran-2, and engage them at close range with cheap weaponry (Machine guns, laser-guided rockets...).
Similar to Embraer, Textron has also pushed its AT-6 Wolverine light attack craft for C-UAS missions.
