Baykar’s AKINCI UCAV hit a ground target with the TOLUN-F small-diameter bomb, fitted with alternative HE-FRAG warhead in place of TOLUN’s penetration warhead.
The first test of the TOLUN family’s new member from AKINCI UCAV, TOLUN-F, ended with a landing within the target zone. Baseline TOLUN with KARETTA anti-jam GNSS antenna was tested alongside TOLUN-F.
TOLUN-F, like baseline TOLUN, only uses GNSS/INS guidance despite its identical shape to the TOLUN IIR with an IIR seeker and MITL guidance mode. However, the key difference is that TOLUN-F uses a HE-FRAG warhead for improved area effect instead of TOLUN’s penetration warhead. This renders TOLUN-F as a low-cost option for soft targets spread over a large area while ensuring compatibility with SADAK-4T/SADAK-2T smart racks.
TOLUN Family
TOLUN, starting as ASELSAN’s counterpart to the US-made GBU-39 SDB, eventually became a family of small diameter bombs intended for combat aircraft and UCAVs either through the SADAK smart racks or standalone hardpoints.
Current variants of TOLUN include:
-TOLUN: Penetration Warhead, GNSS/INS Guidance
-TOLUN IIR: HE-FRAG Warhead, IIR+GNSS/INS Guidance
-TOLUN-S: Ground-Launched TOLUN through GÖKTAN Launch System, with DeltaV’s booster
-TOLUN-F: HE-FRAG Warhead, GNSS/INS Guidance
