Baykar’s Akıncı UCAV has performed its first flight test with ASELSAN’s ASELFLIR-600 Electro-Optical System to serve as the high-end of the ASELFLIR line.
ASELFLIR-600 will be a significant upgrade from the ASELFLIR-500 that was previously integrated on the UCAV (Also present on Bayraktar TB2), with a heavier frame allowing for more powerful sensor payloads.
ASELFLIR-600’s optical sensors include 1920x1080 TV, 1280x1024 MWIR, and 1280x1024 SWIR cameras.
In addition to extended range for detection and identification, the heavy Electro-Optical system will have a laser designation range that ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol previously described as “double the current range”, which indicates more than 60 km.
After Akıncı, TUSAŞ’s Aksungur UCAV and possibly future helicopters are expected to use the new electro-optical system offering long range.
