AKINCI UCAVs Arrive at Turkish Cyprus

Two AKINCI UCAVs have flown about 1000 km to Turkish Cyprus to participate in the parade for the 50th anniversary of Cyprus Peace Operation. The UCAVs landed at the Geçitkale Airport. As reported by Anadolu Agency News, the two AKINCI UCAVs will fly alongside F-16 fighter jets as part of the Cyprus Peace Operation’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The formation flight will be an addition to 50 Turkish warships’ pass. Additionally, the Turkish Defence Industries Agency SSB will hold a defence exhibition in Turkish Cyprus, showcasing products currently used by the Turkish Armed Forces.

Beyond the parade subject, AKINCI’s presence also signals a possible deployment of the UCAV in Turkish Cyprus. Turkiye has deployed Bayraktar TB2 armed UAVs and might launch the game shortly with the more capable AKINCI. Compared to Bayraktar TB2, AKINCI has a wider range of capabilities in firepower, like general-purpose bombs, ÇAKIR cruise missiles that can engage both ground and naval targets, and UAV-series aero-ballistic missiles. With recent moves from Greek Cyprus to acquire new equipment in mind, it would not be a surprise for Turkiye to react with the deployment of AKINCI.
