The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) upgrades 68 A-29s to A-29Ms for interoperability with the F-39 Gripen.
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) will begin modernizing its A-29 Super Tucano light attack/trainer aircraft fleet to the A-29M standard in 2025. The modernization to the A-29M standard is designed to align the Super Tucano's avionics and systems with the F-39 Gripen, FAB's advanced fighter aircraft.
This program will improve the interoperability of the A-29 with the F-39 Gripen fighter jet, as reported by Defensa. This interoperability project involves 68 A-29 aircraft currently in four operational squadrons: Scorpio, Flecha, Grifo, and Joker. Planned upgrades include electro-optical sensors, laser-guided weapons, reinforced armour, and self-protection systems against missile threats and replacing the current cockpit display with a Wide Area Display (WAD), similar to the F-39 Gripen.
