Çakır Cruise Missile Joins Barbaros Coastal Defence System

ROKETSAN has revealed the land-based launcher of the Çakır compact cruise missile for the Barbaros Coastal Defence System.

The land-based launcher for Çakır uses the same erector unit as the land-based Atmaca anti-ship missile, mounted on an 8x8 truck. However, thanks to Çakır's smaller size, each truck can carry six missiles.

Land-based Çakır will use a rocket booster as it isn't air-launched in this case. Like Atmaca, Çakır has RF and IIR seeker options, with a hybrid RF+IIR seeker to be developed in future.

Çakır can reach a range of 100+ km when launched from land/sea platforms carrying a 70 kg warhead with HE-FRAG, penetrating, and thermobaric options. It can either engage smaller ships or saturate larger ships in support of Atmaca, thanks to more missiles carried per launcher.

Barbaros's main targeting system will be the ashore surface search radars like ASELSAN SERDAR X-band radar. Additionally, the command vehicles can be mounted with their own radars upon need. However, it likely isn't limited to this thanks to the widespread use of UAVs/UCAVs in the Turkish Navy as maritime surveillance platforms, which can act as remote sensors and relay the target location.
