ROKETSAN’s AKYA heavyweight torpedo fired from TCG Sakarya (S-354) submarine split the target ship in two during the Denizkurdu-II 2026 naval exercise.
Turkish MoD announced that an AKYA heavyweight torpedo was used against a target ship during the Denizkurdu-II 2026 naval exercise from the modernised TCG Sakarya (S-354) submarine.
AKYA split the target ship in two with its high explosive warhead, validating its lethality against full-size surface combatants.
AKYA, developed by ROKETSAN, is a 533 mm heavyweight torpedo to succeed the legacy torpedoes in Turkish Navy service. The torpedo is usable from the modernised Preveze-class and Gür-class submarines (Type 209/1400), and the new Reis-class (Type-214TN) AIP submarines.
AKYA, using battery-powered contra-rotating propellers, can reach a speed of 45+ knots and a range of 50+ km. The torpedo’s guidance modes include fibre-optic wire, ship wake, and active/passive sonar seeker.
