A photo shared by the Chilean Army shows a Leopard 2A4 MBT with ASELSAN’s ATS-65D commander’s electro-optical system, suggesting the start of deliveries.

It was predicted that ASELSAN would use the ATS-65 commander’s sights for the second phase of Leopard 2A4 modernisation for the Chilean Army. Previously, internal systems like radios were modernised to improve communication capabilities.

The second phase involves new optical systems, a fire control system (Likely VOLKAN type), and a 360-degree situational awareness system.

The next phases of the modernisation will involve armour upgrades and the integration of the AKKOR active protection system, which is set to be fielded by the Turkish Army onboard ALTAY MBT as well.

Thus, the modernisation programme of ASELSAN for the Chilean Leopard 2A4 MBTs is important for its comprehensive nature.

ATS-65 features both TV and thermal cameras and a laser rangefinder.

In addition to usage onboard MBT turrets as an independently moving commander’s optical system, ATS-65 can be used on lighter vehicles and RCWS (SARP series and STAMP series).
