The Romania-based production facility producing the Cobra II 4x4 armoured vehicles for the Romanian Army per the export contract has begun its deliveries.
Anadolu Agency News reported that the Romanian-produced Otokar Cobra IIs for the Romanian Army have entered the delivery phase, following the completion of Turkish-produced Cobra II deliveries.
Romania’s order for Cobra II vehicles consists of 1059 vehicles in many different configurations such as APC, MEDEVAC, flatbed, and weapons carrier.
The Automecanica facility acquired by Otokar is envisioned to go beyond producing Cobra II vehicles for Romania. Otokar is planning for the facility to act as a European node to expand the reach on the continent, especially after the announcement of large-scale acquisition programmes like SAFE.
One of the new projects to emerge from Otokar’s Romania cooperation is the 6x6 Medium UGV jointly developed with Turkish Elektroland Defence (Expertise on flexible drivetrains and has developed the BOĞAÇ UGV) and Romanian Blue Space Technologies.
