China Shows Lightweight Tiltrotor Aircraft Prototype

An image of the Chinese lightweight tiltrotor Zhang Ying R6000 prototype was released on social media.
In terms of weight class, the R6000 is similar to the Italian Leonardo AW609. It is a smaller and cheaper alternative to larger examples like V-22 Osprey and V-280 Valor. The new tiltrotor's scale models have been displayed in several Chinese exhibitions.
Zhang Ying R6000 is stated to have an MTOW of 6 tonnes, a cruising speed of 550 km/h and a range of 4000 km. The stated range might be the ferry range, as the similarly weighing AW609 has an operational range of 1800 km with auxiliary fuel tanks. Up to 10 passengers can be carried in the cabin.
Smaller tilt rotors like the Zhang Ying R6000 are envisioned for a wide range of civilian applications, promising lower acquisition/operating costs and ease of storage. These include potential uses in airborne ambulance services, VIP transport, and more, expanding the possibilities of aviation technology.
Tiltrotors offer high cruise speed as they rotate down their engines for horizontal flight while having similar vertical capabilities to helicopters. However, the failure of one engine is mostly fatal due to the imbalance in engine output.
